i'm in need of some help on determining whether my katana is an Iaido [practice sword]
i've tried testing whether it is steel of not, i've tried it against a magnet and it sticks..
i just need to know how long the tang is, if it is full tang..
another point that is of my concern is that where the habaki is, there is like a white substance to fill in the gap where the blade lays so it won't wobble on impact. is this safe? can i use it as an iaido?

I collect Masamunes too. What would I have to pay for a genuine signed Masamune blade vs a non signed one? I would prefer one with a real carved name.

You might want to collect more general intelligence first before stating that you want to collect a National Treasure. Sayin g you want to get a Masamune blade is the same as stating that you want to kill a white buffalo for the pelt. The Masamune blade is the BEST in Japan's eyes. You would know that if you actually READ the history of the blade first before you posted some crap about being a "collector". True collectors KNOW about the real worth of an item. THE HISTORY of it.

I have an O-katana and I think it might be from the Koto period, as it is more common during that time. It has a name on the sword, but it is carved in japanese so I don't know what it means, any help?
